Wayne Peters with the trophy awarded to the Naked Sausage
Chops away for the best bangers by far

Chapel Market pair stall win big in Sausage of the Year

TWO Chapel Market regulars are runners up in a prestigious annual Sausage of the Year Competition held at Butchers Hall, Spitalfields.
French-trained chef Wayne Peters and butcher Tony Baldock won third Place in the competition last week competing against 600 entrants, with their tasty Lincolnshire sausage.
The gastronomic pair have run The Naked Sausage, which can be found half way along Chapel Market, for the last four years. During this time they’ve built up a loyal fan base of banger and burger fans.
Mr Peters said: “The key to success, is in using the very best British-sourced and natural ingredients.
“Originally we wanted to buy sausages and just cook them, but when we couldn’t find a sausage that we thought was good enough we decided to create our own.
“Things just grew from there and we now offer six types of pork sausage as well as lamb, beef and our new jerk-chicken.”
Chapel Market is Islington’s longest running street market and has been continually trading since the 1850s.
More than 100 stall holders regularly take up Islington Council- managed pitches selling everything from toys, linens and clothes to fruit and veg, hot food and cheeses. Recently, occasional themed markets, featuring Italian and French stalls, have also proved to be very popular.
Councillor George Allan, Executive Member for Customer Focus, Islington Council said: “I’m a big fan of fresh produce – including bangers – so I’ll be paying a visit to The Naked Sausage soon.”
There are pitch vacancies for all types of commodities particularly selling clothing, books and periodicals, confectionery and arts and crafts.
