Give school caterer a break
• WE are saddened and disappointed that, before the ink is even dry on the new school meals contract, there have already been accusations regarding the running of it, even though the new caterer, Cater Link, will not take over officially until the beginning of September.
Parents were involved by Islington Council throughout the entire process of choosing a caterer for the next school meals contract. The council officers in charge welcomed parents’ contributions from the first stages over a year ago, and worked hard to make sure parents were involved and consulted at all times, even allowing a representative to take part in the evaluation committee looking at the bids from catering companies.
Their commitment to inclusion and openness is one that many other council departments and other councils would do well to emulate, and we are grateful to them for it.
School Meals Matter – Islington welcomes Cater Link to Islington as it will provide a fresh start to producing food for our children. It has a firm commitment to quality service, staff well-being and emphasis on fresh food, and we hope its involvement in our school meals will be a real leap forward in children’s diet and health.
