And the winner is… Top dogs go for walkies and come back with prizes
DOGS were the stars of the show at Highbury Fields at the weekend.
Twenty-five preened pooches strutted their stuff at Scruffs dog show on Sunday.
The free Islington Council-run event, the first of several Scruffs shows planned across the borough this summer, featured an obedience contest and information on dog ownership and pet care.
But it was the afternoon’s competitions that really got the tongues (and tails) wagging.
Prizes were awarded for the best-behaved, best- looking and scruffiest dogs.
There were also the fiercely-competitive ‘Waggiest tail’ and ‘Dog the judge would most like to take home’ categories, all judged by members of Islington parks patrol.
Councillor Terry Stacy, the council’s Lib Dem deputy leader, said: “We want to help everyone enjoy our parks this summer and our Scruffs competition – now in its sixth year – is as popular as ever.”
