Garden backers
• WE think Culpeper Community Garden is pretty special too (Jewel of a garden needs your support, May 11). That’s why the council took the unusual step of granting the volunteers a 50-year lease on the space to secure the site – for which they have ambitious plans.
The council does not require the garden to undertake schools’ outreach work – that’s why we don’t give them funding for this. But the council is a lead partner of Islington Strategic Partnership, the body that helped the garden get its green pennant status. We’ve also offered them the border beside the park – effectively extending their greenspace and nature habitat.
