Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 1 June 2007

Threat to invaluable computer centre

THREE weeks ago, I wrote to eight Lib Dem councillors about the possible closure of Islington Computer Skills Centre, based at Finsbury Library.
The letters were addressed to the Lib Dem councillors in Bunhill, Clerkenwell and other wards and to former mayor Councillor Jyoti Vaja and council leader Councillor James Kempton. None of the councillors has shown sufficient interest or courtesy to respond, with the exception of Councillor George Allan, who sent me a brief acknowledgement.
Shops are sold by the Lib Dems with no regard for communities and now an invaluable community resource, which has enabled people to acquire IT skills and, in some cases, find work, is threatened with closure.
Yet, councillors are so arrogant and uninterested that they do not even bother to respond to constituents who exercise their democratic right to approach them
I and the 800 or so people who have passed through the centre know how we will be voting at the next local elections. In the meantime, I am lodging a complaint with the Lib Dems’ central office.
