Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 1 June 2007

Hypocrisy over closures of post offices

I FIND it complete hypocrisy that the Lib Dems have suddenly decided to oppose the government’s plans to reduce some of the post offices on a national scale. They say that the post office in Essex Road may be one of those under threat.
Funnily enough, this is the same post office which is part of the council sell-off of small shops.
It’s a pity the Lib Dems failed to use the same approach when closing two area housing offices in Boleyn Road and Isledon Road.
What about the loss of these local services for the most vulnerable people?
They ignored the people’s needs then, yet complain about the loss of a post office which they themselves have now put under threat.
Their argument in favour of retaining post offices is just political hype, which people will completely see through. The St Peter’s Labour councillors will campaign to retain all shops and small businesses in the ward, including the post office.
There is nothing two-faced about us.
