Actors cast around for sponsor
SPONSORS are needed for the next production planned by Barnsbury-based Young Actors Theatre – a murder mystery set in a beautiful garden in Clerkenwell. The play, Pleasure Garden, is based on a book by the late Leon Garfield, who lived in Highgate. The plot centres on Victorian urchins who hide out in the undergrowth of Mulberry Gardens in Clerkenwell and listen out for any indiscretions in the conversations of adults.
These indiscretions are relayed to the children’s boss, the black-attired Mrs Bray, who runs an elaborate blackmail business. When a murder occurs, the vicar of St James in Clerkenwell, who is also the investigating magistrate, becomes involved.
The cast are inviting businesses and individuals to a reading at 8pm on Friday, June 8, at the Barnsbury Road theatre. The play is a co-production with Absolute Theatre.
