Armed police street arrests
ARMED police swooped on a gang of suspected robbers in Angel last Tuesday. The officers, who were all holding automatic rifles, carried out the operation in Baron Street where they arrested the men who were wanted over a series of armed robberies in Sheffield.
Witnesses reported the police team stopping a green Vauxhall Tigra in the street and dragging the men out.
One office worker said: “They were shouting and telling us to keep away from the windows.”
The men in the car were all in their 20s and wore tracksuits and baseball caps.
PC Mark Thompson, a Yorkshire officer who is investigating the case, said: “We were alerted to the possible presence of people we think were responsible for armed robberies in Sheffield travelling to London. “As a result five people in their 20s were arrested for carrying offensive weapons.”
