Community service work revamps play area
CRIMINALS on community service have given a Barnsbury adventure playground a fresh lease of life. Over eight weeks, offenders cleaned and repainted equipment, railings and furniture in Barnard Park.
Tyres previously fly-tipped on the land were recycled as unusual plant pots and colourfully painted play equipment.
Jenny O’Shea, senior play and youth worker at the Islington Council-run scheme, said: “We’re very grateful to Community Payback for supplying us with the tyres and the extensive work they did at the playground. The tyres have been used for lots of things from gardens to swings – the kids here love to reuse things.”
