Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 15 June 2007

Where was the help?

I WAS amused by Bridget Fox’s comment, “Housing association tenants are entitled to a good environment” (Former Town Hall chiefs divided over ‘eyesore’ flats, June 8)
When I was a housing association tenant, I repeatedly asked Ms Fox to instruct those who ran the parks department to do what self-evidently needed to be done – to lock the council garden where we lived at night and thereby improve our environment immeasurably. After four years nothing had been done.
I would advise those opposed to Newlon Housing Association’s plans in Barnsbury to be cautious about bringing ex-councillor Ms Fox into their campaign. When she lost her council seat and failed to take the parliamentary seat in Finsbury and Islington South, why didn’t she go somewhere where nobody would know about her disastrous six years as deputy leader of the council?
I would like to ask Ms Fox one thing: why, over such a long period, did she do not a single thing to help my neighbours and I live in a reasonable environment?

LIB Dem ex-councillor Bridget Fox shows she is willing to say or do virtually anything to get into the papers.
Her latest foot-in-mouth success is to attack her fellow party members for supporting the new development on the Barnsbury estate.
Does she know that her former leader Steve Hitchins is now part of the housing association behind the development, and that her Lib Dem colleague on the planning committee voted for the development?
And if that isn’t enough, the development is directly opposite the 13 luxury flats in Barnard Park she helped railroad through when she was still a councillor. I think she may have completely lost the plot.
