Need a bike? Just borrow one from community centre
A “BORROW a bike” scheme has been launched in Finsbury in a joint initiative between police and a community centre. Six bicycles found by the police but not reclaimed were given to St Luke’s Centre on Monday.
The bikes will now be available to residents who wish to borrow a cycle for a couple of hours, or even a couple of days. PC Sejal Unadkat, from Bunhill Safer Neighbourhoods Team, who gave the bicycles to St Luke’s Centre, said: “This is a valuable project because it gives people who can’t necessarily afford their own bicycle the chance to borrow one free of charge. “It also shows the Met’s commitment to green issues by encouraging more people to cycle, and that we’re working closely and building relationships with other organisations.”
Cycle training sessions are to be held at St Luke’s. A monthly bike maintenance workshop is also planned.
For more information about the bicycle project visit the centre in Central Street, call 020 7549 8181 or go to www.met.police.uk/saferneighbourhoods.
