Sad songs? Gunners fans set to cheer up with music
AS if things are not bad enough for Arsenal with star player Thierry Henry going to Barcelona and the future of manager Arsene Wenger in doubt – now someone is trying to cheer up the fans with an organised community sing-song. The BBC Singers will be outside the Emirates Stadium next Thursday, July 5, at 6pm, and former EastEnders actor and Arsenal supporter Tom Watts will be master of ceremonies.
The organisers are hoping up to 500 people will attend the sing-along for an hour at the front of the stadium at the podium under the clock.
Morale-boosting classics will include “You are my Arsenal” (to the tune You Are My Sunshine), And It’s Super Gunners (Wild Rover), We’ve Got The Best Player In The World (He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands) and, of course, the old favourite Good Old Arsenal (Rule Britannia). The Sing Arsenal event, which will be played live on BBC London radio’s Drivetime show, is part of Sing London – an all-city sing-along, which is being held across the capital between June 29 and July 8, with more than 100 events taking place to unite the city in song.
The organiser of the Arsenal event is Caroline McBain, 24, who works with the West Hampstead creative agency Metal.
She said: “We just want everyone to come along and celebrate Arsenal by having a good sing song.”
