Islington Tribune - SPECIAL REPORT BY MARK BLUNDEN and PETER GRUNER
Published: 6 July 2007

Teenager badly beaten by ‘mob’

A TEENAGER was badly beaten just three days after Martin Dinnegan was killed.
The 18-year-old had his knuckles broken when he was set upon in the early hours of Friday in Eburne Road, Holloway – only two streets from the spot where Martin, 14, was stabbed to death last Tuesday.
A group of up to 20 youths chased him down Windsor Road, Sussex Way and into Seven Sisters Road.
The victim jumped over a garden gate in Eburne Road to hide from the mob.
But the gang followed the teenager into an alley, where he was punched and kicked.
After the gang fled, the boy managed to make it home and call police and an ambulance.
He was treated at an unnamed north London hospital for broken knuckles and cuts to his hands, arms, body and head, some of which needed stitches.
Last week, the Tribune reported how extra police had been drafted into Finsbury Park and the surrounding area in an attempt to prevent attacks in the wake of Martin’s death.
Detective Sergeant Adam Rodger, from Islington CID, said of Friday’s attack: “There’s a good chance someone would have seen something, particularly in the Seven Sisters Road area. It’s very important they contact police as this was a very severe attack.”
Witnesses should call Islington CID on 0207 421 0350 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
A 16-year-old boy appeared at Thames Youth Court on Monday charged with grievous bodily harm.
An 18-year-old also appeared at Highbury Corner on Wednesday, charged with GBH.

The type of violence and extreme anti-social behaviour seen around
many parts of Finsbury Park is appalling. Police presence on the street is
an extremely effective deterrent to people looking to commit crime. Although
other measures, such as planned operations and intelligence gathering, are
crucial, the key to preventing a lot of the violence, intimidation and
harassment is to have more police in public places.
