Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 20 July 2007

Shocking pictures

• THE Tribune carried photographs and a report of a demonstration outside Holloway Prison following a death in custody there (Prison protesters clash with police, July 13).
The placards showed questions that need answering and the behaviour of the police was disgusting.
The demonstrators were mostly women. Pauline Campbell and another lady are bereaved parents and there was also someone in the party who had a heart condition.
It is shocking when one sees pictures of male police handling women. Their conduct is deserving of the strongest possible public condemnation.
DR GEORGE COOMBS
Hove, East Sussex

IT seems clear police have already made up their minds about the outcome of an investigation into officers’ behaviour outside Holloway Prison, and they will dispatch it with Pauline Campbell’s complaint as a piece of irksome paperwork.
MARY CORCORAN
Sydenham, SE26

I echo the sentiments of dr coombs and mary corcoran.the police action was truly atrocious.to see ladies being manhandled in such an appalling manner beggars belief, and to think i pay my taxes to pay these bully boys their wages.a total disgrace to the uniform they were in.and yes all complaints will probably be swept under the carpet, thats par for the course.
