Flowers are real hazard
• THE front-page article (Flower ban ‘just potty’, July 13) presents a picture of gobbledygook and misrepresentation.
Jillian White is amply surrounded with greenery inside and outside her building as well as within her own flat. External and internal communal windowsills, side landings off stairwells and a large parking lot are all profusely decorated.
The plants which she maintains should not be removed were at the bottom landings of two stairways. They were, and still are, a genuine safety hazard.
In an emergency people could stumble over plants, causing others to fall and be trod upon.
Seconds count in emergencies and delays can cause fatalities. The back stairwell could be put out of use by fire, forcing residents to use the front stairwell, where the plants are located.
Residents’ safety is of prime importance. The landlord is responsible for implementing sensible safety measures.
