Departing: Carol Mellor
School’s ‘voice of reason’ bows out
A CANONBURY school has said goodbye to its chairwoman of governors. Carol Mellor, who had chaired the governors at William Tyndale School, in Sable Street, for 12 years, stood down at the end of the summer term.
During her time as a governor, Mrs Mellor, 68, from Manor Gardens, Holloway, served alongside four headteachers.
She said: “Lots of things have changed at William Tyndale but what has stayed the same is the creativity and imagination of the children and teachers. That has been a constant.”
Mrs Mellor, a former chemistry teacher and mother of two daughters, said she was “fascinated by education”. She taught maths as a volunteer while chairing the governors’ body. “I’ve got lots of enduring memories, but it’s the liveliness and affection of the children that will stay with me,” she added.
Clare Norwood, a parent at William Tyndale, said: “Carol’s energy and commitment made her a very visible figure within our school community. “The experience she had previously as a teacher and as a parent enabled her to be a great voice of reason. She has worked tirelessly over the last 10 years and will be very much missed.”
