Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 3 August 2007

Let the music play

• ON Monday at 10am, there will be a hearing to oppose the application for off-licence sales at Darbucka World Music Bar and Restaurant in Clerkenwell. Darbucka is already a licensed premises with a tables and chairs licence. Since the smoking ban, customers have been requesting to eat and drink outside.
But residents are to oppose the application to sell alcohol at the tables and chairs as they don’t like the “type of noise” coming from Darbucka.
Darbucka plays world music. It attracts experts in the field such as from the BBC, Cultural Cooperation and The Guardian. Naturally, it also attracts a diverse range of people from the countries where the music originates.
I have put lots of energy into bringing world music to a wider audience and will not let this opposition stand in the way of our vision.
AHMAD MOHAMAD
