Drugs gang feud fears after shooting
A SUSPECTED gang feud culminated in a shooting on an Archway estate on Monday night. Witnesses said six men were arguing loudly before a gun was pulled out and shots fired around New Orleans Walk, off Hornsey Rise.
A 21-year-old man was hit in the arm and treated later at an east London hospital. One teenager who saw the dispute erupt said it could have been the latest episode in an escalating drugs war.
The 18-year-old youth, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals, said: “There was a group of blokes just yelling. They were shouting so loudly and quickly that it was hard to hear what they were saying. “All of a sudden the thing just blows up and someone pulled a gun. You could hear the crack of the shots. “It all stopped once the bloke had been hit. He was crying out in pain.”
The student added: “He’s lucky to be alive. I don’t think anyone cared where they were shooting. I could only guess what it’s over but there’s a few people selling puff [cannabis] who feel they need guns for protection so it could be related to that.”
The inquiry into the shooting is being led by Operation Trident, which investigates gun crime in the black community. No one has been arrested.
