Trafalgar Square tryst led to man’s drug cocktail death

A CLEANER died of a fatal cocktail of drugs and alcohol after going back to the Highbury home of a woman he met in Trafalgar Square on New Year’s day.
Michael Musialik, 29, was found dead at the Quadrant Square hostel room of a woman he had met the same night.
The woman, who had been begging in Trafalgar Square, offered to take Mr Musialik back to her home after he told her he had some drugs.
Mariusz Czerwinski, told the court his half-brother, Mr Musialik, had had a drug problem when living in Poland but had become clean since moving to England.
PC Matthew Brandon, who attended the scene, told the court the woman told him: “She had gone to Trafalgar Square, she’d met the gentleman called Michael. He spoke Polish and lived in Wembley.
They’d gone back to her hostel, they both took what she described as a small amount of heroin, she fell asleep, Michael was on his front with his head on his side.”
Later that day, after she had woken up, the woman returned to the room to find Mr Musialik lying with his head in the pillow. His lips were blue. Detective Sergeant Joe Lock, of Islington CID ruled out the possibility of any suspicious circumstances.
He said: “The room was in disarray but not as in any fighting or disturbance.”
A post mortem found no signs of violence and no evidence he had been the victim of an assault.
The cause of death was given as alcohol and opiate toxicity.
St Pancras Coroner Dr Andrew Reid said he would not return a verdict of abuse of drugs as Mr Musialik “did consume drugs for the first time in a long time on New Year’s Day”.
Verdict: Misadventure/accident.
