Best ever GCSEs
ISLINGTON students have scooped their best ever GCSE results this year, it was announced yesterday (Thursday).
A bumper crop of A* – C grades has pushed the number of teenagers getting five or more good passes up to 50 per cent – a rise of 3 per cent on last year.
Elizabeth Garrett Anderson and Mount Carmel were the most improved borough schools, leaping up 11 and 10 per cent respectively.
But the biggest turnaround of all was St Aloysius’s, best performing school in the borough this year with 60 per cent at grade A* – C, doubling the percentage it scored just four years ago.
The results are in stark contrast to last week’s A-level figures, with grades down almost 10 per cent on last year.
