Firefighters warn of gas cylinder danger
A CAMPAIGN has been launched to ensure businesses safely store highly volatile acetylene gas cylinders.
It follows a fire last year in King’s Cross when hundreds of residents around York Way had to be evacuated for fear two cylinder on a building site would explode “like torpedoes”.
Thousands of commuters were also left stranded and businesses forced to close.
The gas is used in many of the borough’s 1,000 building sites and some garages for cutting and welding metal.
Firefighters joined community safety chief Councillor Marisha Ray at the Town Hall this week to drive home the message.
