Tom Easton
Vigil for stabbing victim on anniversary of death
THE mother of a youth worker stabbed to death in the music studio where he worked, will hold a vigil to mark the one-year anniversary of his death. Dolores Altaras will be joined by MAMAA (Mothers Against Murder and Aggression) outside EC1 Studios, Old Street on Saturday to remember her son, Tom Easton, and the many others who have lost their lives to knife crime.
Mr Easton, from Finsbury Park, was attacked by one of the youths he was mentoring at the council-run EC1 Music Project for disadvantaged young people.
A trained sound engineer and passionate musician, he was helping four young people record their own track on the afternoon of September 15 last year, when without any provocation, one of them turned on him. The group alerted an ambulance as they fled the scene but nothing could be done to save Tom. He was 22 when he died.
Mrs Altaras said: “This day is for my anger and I feel that I am now ready to show it. “I would welcome the support of everyone who feels the way I do. We need to commemorate Tom’s death and protest against the evil spread of knife crime.”
His family set up the Tom Easton Flavasum Trust, named after the record label he founded, to crusade against knife crime and prevent further tragedies
MAMAA is a national charity that supports the families of murder victims.
The vigil will start at 4.30pm outside the studio on 173b Old Street.
