Developer to appeal over flats plan
DEVELOPERS are expected to appeal against Islington Council’s decision to throw out a scheme for a five to seven-storey block of commercial and residential units off Holloway Road. Objectors celebrated this week after the East Area planning committee rejected the scheme last week.
Developer First Base and English Partnerships planned to demolish the Mann & Overton Taxi showroom and other buildings and replace them with flats and shops.
Residents were most concerned about the design and appearance of the building and its impact on the adjoining conservation areas.
Proposals included 128 new homes, of which 50 per cent were affordable for key workers and social rented.
