MP calls for peace in the Middle East
ISLINGTON MP Emily Thornberry used a trip to the Middle East to call on Israeli and Palestinian leaders to seize the opportunity for peace. Her trip to the Palestinian Occupied Territories, and Israel, came in advance of the US-sponsored peace conference in Jerusalem in November.
Miss Thornberry said: ‘True friends of Israel and Palestine should now be saying that this opportunity cannot be missed. Both sides must make every effort towards a final agreement before it is too late.’
She met with a number of high-ranking officials, including Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and Shimon Perez, Israeli President.
The MP went from the 2-7 September, as part of a delegation organised by the influential pro-Israeli lobby group Labour Friends for Israel.
