Champion of people
• WHAT an incredible piece of political gymnastics Leo Newman had to perform to arrive at his perverse conclusion (Threat to MPs, September 28).
Can I remind him that Brent is not Islington. Has Mr Newman already forgotten about the 13-seat swing to Labour from the Lib Dems at the 2006 Islington Council elections, which brought Labour to within two seats of regaining control of the council from the Lib Dems.
Jeremy Corbyn has been Labour MP for Islington North since 1983. During that time he has been a champion for the people of his constituency in Parliament, and especially the less-well-off and vulnerable in our society.
Jeremy has been at the forefront of campaigns whereby the Labour government is now making huge investments in housing, health and education that benefit the people of Islington.
Most recently, he has been pressing for more council housing to address the 13,000 waiting list in the borough. And many will recall his principled opposition to the war in Iraq.
On a recent canvassing session in Islington North nearly every person answering the door remarked how Jeremy had helped them in one way or another. The reality is that Mr Corbyn is very popular with his constituents. To suggest otherwise is tantamount to living in a Lib Dem fantasyland.
