£10,000 raid at new Frost store
TRADERS are today (Friday) rallying round actress Sadie Frost and business partner Jemima French after thieves on mopeds stole £10,000 of luxury goods from their newly-opened high fashion boutique in a midnight raid. Just three weeks after FrostFrench created a media frenzy with its celebrity opening in Camden Passage, Angel, the robbery has forced the pair to replenish their lost stock of luxury coats and denims with merchandise from their internet business.
Annie Moss, who sells vintage clothing and who attended a party to welcome the friends to Camden Passage, said: “It’s terribly sad. They’ve only been here for a few weeks. “I suspect that the designer clothing was deliberately targeted. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the same people that robbed the Mayfair designer shops recently. There is obviously a big trade in designer wear which can be sold at a knock-down price on the markets.”
The raid bears similarities to recent designer raids by thieves on mopeds on Larizia in
St John’s Wood, Marc Jacobs and Luella in Mayfair, and Brora in Marylebone High Street.
Antique dealer Mike Weedon, a member of the Camden Passage Association, said: “Generally there isn’t a serious crime problem around here, although there are the odd pickpockets and shoplifters. “I’m sure everyone will rally round and offer any help they can. I’m sure they will be able to pick up again despite this robbery. They’ll just have to beef up their security.”
A Met Police spokesman said: “Police were called on Thursday, October 4, by a member of the public to reports of a burglary on a business premises in Camden Passage. “At approximately 1.20am two mopeds, each carrying two suspects, entered Camden Passage. “One moped forced access to the shop and the pillion passenger from the second moped entered the shop and removed clothing. “Both mopeds have then driven from the scene in the direction of Upper Street. All suspects were wearing dark clothing and helmets.”
Islington Priority Crime Unit are investigating the burglary and no arrests have been made yet.
