Award-winning gardeners grow for it!

TALENTED gardeners in EC1 have been singled out for their green-fingered gift in two flower competitions.
Gardening groups at Tompian and Earnshawe Estates, off Percival Street, and Cyrus House, off Malta Street received merits in the neighbourhood category at the London in Bloom awards at the Emirates Stadium.
Heather Sabler, EC1 New Deal for Communities Environmental Officer, who was presented with a certificate by judging panel chairman Jim Buttress, said: “It is great that all the hard work of resident volunteers has been recognised.
“Open spaces in EC1 are now looking so much brighter and cared for.”
Gardens in EC1 received more accolades at the Islington in Bloom awards at the Town Hall last week, (Thursday).
The Mayor of Islington presented a certificate to Toffee Park Adventure Playground, which won Best School Grounds and the garden at St Luke’s Primary School received a Certificate of Excellence.
Resident Vicky Cunningham, the gardener responsible for both Toffee Park and St Luke’s School, said: “It was a fantastic evening and humbling to be recognised this way. It was great for the kids who worked on the garden.”
