Groups urged to dip into Arsenal fund cash
A MEETING where community and voluntary group representatives could find out how to claim grants from the £500,000 Arsenal Regeneration Fund has been cancelled until later this year. A workshop was due to be held on Saturday, October 27, but has been moved to a date before Christmas to allow more residents to attend.
Grants of up to £1,000 are available for community groups. Applications can be made by community, voluntary or educational groups or residents’ associations.
Organisers of childcare schemes, community festivals, sports days and community facilities can also apply.
More than £500,000 is to be made available to tackle “disadvantage” in the community and promote “well-being”.
The fund was set up to meet conditions laid down by Islington Council when the new Emirates Stadium won planning approval.
Islington Council’s deputy leader Lib Dem councillor Terry Stacy said: “This fund will give a further boost to areas which are already seeing social regeneration through the Arsenal projects.”
