Accountant in charge
• NARENDRA Makanji, chairman of Whittington Hospital, is removed at a time when the hospital has greatly improved (Backlash over hospital sacking, October 26). He is to be replaced by a chartered accountant from Ernst & Young on the recommendation of his vice-chairman, Peter Farmer, a former consultant and director of Ernst & Young.
This is the company which recently gave massive golden handshakes to the incompetent bosses of Metronet. It refused to say what the figures were but undoubtedly they will run into millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money.
So Whittington Hospital is now to be run by consultants and accountants. Another step towards privatisation of the health service?
