Debate over future of homeless hostel
ISLINGTON Council has launched a consultation on plans to flatten a homeless hostel in Highbury Quadrant to make way for an undisclosed number of new council homes.
Twelve-acres Reception Centre, on the corner of Riverside Road and Highbury Quadrant, provides temporary accommodation for people looking for permanent housing. It will be demolished and replaced with a mixed development of flats and family-sized homes with gardens.
Residents can voice their opinion on three proposals set out on the council’s website www.islington.gov.uk/environment/ planning/majorschemes.
Housing chief councillor Terry Stacy said: “This is a large site with great potential to provide much-needed affordable housing. “It is important that we have the local community on board and this is a good opportunity to gauge their reaction to proposals.”
A second phase of consultation will take place at a later date giving residents the option of looking at the housing associations’ proposals.
The closing date for comments is Friday, November 30.
