A CONFERENCE celebrating the educational and cultural achievements of Turkish, Kurdish and Turkish Cypriot communities is to be staged in Islington next month.
Speakers will include Dr Mehmet Ali Dikeram from Middlesex University, and Hamiyet Asan of The Learning Trust.
Lib Dem education chief Councillor Ursula Woolley said: “I am pleased we are hosting this conference in Islington, where Turkish, Kurdish and Turkish Cypriot communities make such a positive contribution in so many areas.”
The conference will include a discussion on the development of cultural identity and how ethnic minorities find common ground.
It will conclude with a traditional dance by Cem Evi group, followed by tea, Turkish Delight and pastries.
Organised by Islington Council’s ethnic minority achievement service, the conference starts at 9am on December 5 at Barnsbury Centre, in Offord Road.
