Youth Games launch pad for tomorrow’s Olympic swimmers
YOUNG swimmers carrying Olympic medal hopes have received a boost from two of Britain’s sporting greats.
UK 400-metre world champion Christine Ohuruogu and former world indoor 800-metre medalist Jo Fenn took time out from their training schedules to offer advice to Harry Needs, 15, and Devon Robins, 14, who will represent Islington at next year’s London Youth Games. The young swimmers, who will be among 25,000 competitors at next year’s games, are on course to represent Great Britain in the 2012 London Olympics.
Mrs Ohuruogu, 23, said the youth games were the perfect stepping stone for the young swimmers. She said: “Competing in the London Youth Games was great fun and a superb experience for me. The scale of the event and the number of youngsters taking part is amazing, and to be part of that feels really special.”
