Design experts salute town square
ONE of Islington’s town squares has won praise from landscape experts. Edward Square, in Angel, was highly commended in the category of Design Under One Hectare in the Landscape Institute Awards.
The square, created eight years ago, was transformed by a community group working with the council. This partnership appointed landscape architects to undertake the work
Judges looked at quality of design, cost effectiveness, and community appreciation.
An education liaison officer was specifically appointed to co-ordinate projects between the schools and the landscape architects J&L Gibbons.
An active Friends of Edward Square group looks after the park today in partnership with the council.
Secretary of the group Lisa Pontecorvo said: “Nothing but the best will do for King’s Cross to raise aspirations and that’s what J&L Gibbons gave us, and which the community appreciates eight years on.”
