I’ve sworn off football

• I ENJOY watching football and therefore was delighted to be invited as a guest to Sunday’s match against Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium. What should have been a most enjoyable experience was completely spoiled by incessant swearing. I quite accept that swearing is an everyday part of life and, when things go wrong, I certainly am guilty of swearing.
But the foul-mouth language at Arsenal is in another league. An almost continuous stream of bawled invective is tiresome and offensive. But what is much more worrying is that these insults were made without any regard to the children within earshot. No doubt the counter-argument is that this is “industrial language” and that children hear much worse in schools. Maybe, but not, I suspect, with the level of hatred and venom these “fans” displayed.
