Mayor joins in with wild bunch to celebrate nightclub’s birthday
MORE than 300 people, many with learning difficulties, gathered at The Rocket nightclub on Friday to celebrate 10 years of a charity. Guest of honour Mayor of Islington Barbara Smith gave a speech and cut a birthday cake in celebration of The Wild Bunch, a successful club night run by the Elfrida Society that aims to combat the social isolation faced by people with learning difficulties.
The event also gave them a chance to showcase their potential as DJs, performing hosts and musicians.
Cllr Smith then waved her Mayoral Hat in the air and joined the crowds on the dance floor.
The action-packed evening saw three live acts take to the stage. “Harmonica” Matt, who recently came third in the National Harmonica Championships, delighted the crowds with a performance, along with rappers Xtreme Link and poet Richard Malcolm, who wrote a special birthday poem for the occasion.
Another highlight of the night was the Wild Bunch Top 10 countdown of their most popular tunes.
