Poverty business
• GWEN Ovshinsky speaks of her desire to fight poverty in India and Cambodia (Under-fire social services boss retires, December 28). How can she reconcile such activities with her role in social services, where she forced scores of Care UK staff onto a salary that took them and their families below the poverty line?
Her desire to do voluntary work in no way absolves her of her involvement in the Care UK scandal.
Ms Ovshinsky has stated in the past that that what she did with Care UK was “good business sense”. No doubt this is also how many multi-national companies would justify their exploitation of people in the third world when in fact they are sustaining poverty and negating any moral duty to their fellow human beings.
