Revered museum
• AS the historian to St John Ambulance Australia, I’ve used The Museum of the Order of St John and associated library and archival collections on various occasions over the last 18 years (£1.5m plans to transform ‘hidden treasure’ museum, January 18).
I can say from personal experience that all the collections are of priceless value to historians from around the world who, like me, are interested in the Order of St John and its UK outgrowth, St John Ambulance.
I’m therefore delighted that a grant has been secured to assist with upgrading the museum’s facilities. I’m especially pleased that the upgrade will include a centre for researchers who, again like me, travel from afar to use the collections.
The museum and the buildings that house it have near-sacred significance to hundreds of thousands of St John Ambulance workers around the globe, for many of whom to visit St John’s Gate fulfils a lifetime ambition.
Congratulations and thanks to everyone involved! Congratulations and thanks, too, to the Tribune for publicising the award of the grant to the museum.
