£100,000 prize goes to charity

AN unlucky Lottery winner has forfeited a £100,000 prize after failing to come forward within the 180-day time limit.
Despite last-minute appeals to the unknown winner, who bought the ticket in Islington, the deadline for claimants passed quietly last week and the money was given to charity.
National Lottery operator Camelot Group would not say where in Islington the ticket was bought, only that it was worth £98,381.
The money, plus interest, has now gone to a Good Causes fund, which gives grants to charitable projects across the country.
A National Lottery spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, I can confirm the ticket-holder did not come forward within the deadline to claim their prize and has now sadly missed out on this substantial amount of money.
“To avoid this unfortunate situation happening again, I would urge all Lottery players to check their tickets on a regular basis.
“We tried very hard to find the ticket-holder and it’s a real shame that they have missed out, but there is still one winner – the nation.”
