Solar power gives new chicks a kick start
THESE fluffy winter chicks are the first to arrive at Islington’s Freightliners Farm in Sheringham Road thanks to revolutionary solar panels set up to catch the rays of the sun.
The newborn chicks and ducklings have all been hatched thanks to the green electricity that is powering incubators and heat lamps, together with a water pump and propagators to help sprout local veg.
The panels are also helping to create the farm’s carbon-neutral café which, as well as being an all-veggie affair, is furnished with hay bales and tables made of sustainable wood.
