Youth club youngsters take a stand against violence and scoop an award for their talent

CELEBRATIONS took place on Saturday morning at a Highbury youth club to mark their success in a London-wide competition that encourages young people to “take a stand against violence”.
Youngsters attending the club at the Chestnuts Community Centre in Highbury Grange won the coveted runner-up spot for their part in Boroughs United, a competition for young people to showcase their musical and dance skills.
It is the second year they have done well in the competition after the club bagged first place in 2007.
The youth club even has some star quality about it, with X-Factor star Leona Lewis as their patron.
Ms Lewis gave the children a Christmas treat last year when she helped out at their party and handed out presents.
The group, which has been run for four years by Laurette Josiah, recently secured charitable status.
Babies to teenagers attend the group and it is particularly well-respected for its work with special needs children.
It hopes to soon raise enough money for a building of its own and a minibus.
