Football ace Faye urges girls: Make sport your goal
ENGLAND and Arsenal women’s football captain Faye White has taken an assembly at Holloway School – just for the girls.
Ms White, 29, who has led Arsenal Ladies to an FA Cup and League double two years running, urged pupils to become involved in sport.
She said: “When I was younger there weren’t a lot of opportunities for girls to get involved in sports. “In my secondary school I ended up going to my headteacher and saying I want to set up a girls’ team. I said I don’t want to play with boys because they don’t want me. We managed to get about 10 girls.” Ms White, awarded an MBE last year, recalled how she would stay up late to catch a glimpse of women’s football
on TV.
Speaking against a backdrop of photographs depicting highlights of her career, she revealed how she had broken her nose five times while playing football.
After the assembly Ms White gave coaching tips to the school’s unbeaten Year 7 girls’ football team.
