Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 29 February 2008

Anti-gay preaching

• THE Rev PD Johnson, in his spurious argument against same-sex marriage, brings up the subject of “sodomy”. This is the last resort of someone who has no argument – trying to win over his audience by claiming disgust.
I am disgusted at the bigotry and hatred – and, of course, hypocrisy – spouted by so many so-called Christians.
If Mr Johnson thinks people who practise sodomy should not be married then he should surely look more carefully at the sex lives of the heterosexuals among his congregation.
He claims that Stonewall, the gay equality organisation, is lobbying for teachers to tell four-year-old children about the gay “lifestyle”. But how true is this claim?
Teaching children that love is good and hatred is bad, it seems, is frowned upon.
In fact, what this man is spouting is nothing less than anti-gay propaganda, sensationalising that which is in fact very little at all.
To talk about a moral decline among the young in the same breath as opposing civil partnerships is ridiculous.
Is he trying to tell us that those “hoodies” on the street corner are gay? Please, don’t make me laugh... Preaching hate is not really very funny.
