Drug dealers start long prison terms
FOUR men and two youths are behind bars following a police investigation which involved the seizure of heroin and cocaine with a street value of more than £100,000.
They were sentenced on Monday for conspiracy to supply, sell and distribute class A drugs in Highbury.
Shane Bennett, 36, of Ferntower Road, Highbury, was jailed for nine years; Casanova Hunter, 20, of Stoke Newington, for four years; Donald Butler, 37, of no fixed abode, for five years; and Robert Christopher Powell, 38, of no fixed abode, for 12 years.
A 17-year-old youth, from Highbury, was given a three-year sentence, and a 14-year-old youth, from Highbury, received two years’ detention at a youth centre and a training order. Neither can be named for legal reasons.
Five of the accused admitted the charges. Powell was found guilty after a trial this month.
Snaresbrook Crown Court heard that the arrests followed a three-month surveillance operation by officers from Operation Trident, which investigates crime in the black community.
They had established that a number of suspects were engaged in the distribution of drugs.
During a police search of an address in Ferntower Road last year heroin and cocaine with a street value of more than £100,000 were recovered.
Det Supt Kevin Davis, who led the operation, said: “These convictions are the result of a long and detailed investigation by Trident officers. This demonstrates we will not tolerate the use and supply of class A drugs on the streets of London and will pursue anyone we believe to be involved.” |
