Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 28 March 2008

Baby clinic was lifeline

• AS a regular user of Church Road baby clinic in Highgate, I was appalled to be told it is closing.
When I took my baby to be weighed, staff were informing mothers that today was the last day they will be there. There has been a well-used baby clinic at this location for decades, and now the building will stand empty, with mothers expected to travel to Crouch End or Muswell Hill.
The fantastic clinic, with its wonderful, reassuring and knowledgeable staff, has been a real lifeline for thousands of parents and babies over the years. Now, many will simply not have access to the health visitors who do such a good job, often under pressing conditions.
What galls me the most is that mothers have not been consulted or given advance warning about this closure, probably to avoid any protest.
This mother, for one, refuses to say nothing about this travesty and I would urge others to speak up also.
