Archway art prize
DARING designers have made their bids to put art at the heart of Archway and earn a share of £1,000 prize money. The four grey council-owned kiosks near Archway Tube station – a greengrocer, a florist, a newspaper stand and a toiletries stall – are set for a makeover thanks to a council-run project, Archway Wrapped Up.
Each winning designer will earn its creator £250, as well as the chance to have their work seen by up to 20,000 people every day.
Darren Hills, 42, who lives in Islington and has run the fruit and vegetable kiosk outside Archway Station for two years, gave the scheme his approval. He said: “I think it’s a brilliant idea to make the place a bit more eye-catching. The stalls need a bit of colour on them.”
