Ali wipes the floor with competition
A HORNSEY Rise caretaker who shares his home with six kids and seven chickens has scooped a top award. Ali Bey-Osman, who has worked on the
Highcroft and Belvoir estates for five years, beat competition from more than 200 Islington caretakers to win the Homes For Islington Caretaker of the Year. “I’ve taken the award home to my family and it’s made them happy,” the 41-year-old said.
His day-to-day tasks include making sure the estates are spick and span for more than 400 residents. “But he does much more than that,” said Alison Enright, who works for Homes For Islington and backed Mr Bey-Osman to win. “When we had a lot of bogus callers trying to scam the elderly residents,” she said, “Ali was the first person they turned to.”
As the eyes and ears of the estate, he reports any trouble to his housing managers. “Every day’s a highlight. I just love it here,” he said.
Mr Bey-Osman lives in Stoke Newington with wife Emma.
