Why must they shut this lovely little post office?
• I WONDERED how long they could leave such a lovely post office open, where there’s a touch of humanity in daily life. Why are governments intent on closing everywhere it is pleasant to go?
I am referring to the threat to close Goswell Road post office. For some time I have been walking some distance to the post office, rather than go to my large, nearer post office. Goswell Road has a friendly atmosphere, not to mention the convenience of a copying machine, the stationery they sell and a very nice choice of greeting cards.

• MP Emily Thornberry has attacked Islington Council over the closure of post offices, yet the council gives millions of pounds in business to them.
In fact, the Labour government has taken trade away, by switching benefits. The fact that electronic money transfers are a cheaper way of doing things is the real driver in this.
It’s not a question of political hue, rather expedience. The post office in Essex Road has been saved, but the basic problem has not gone away.
However, the government has not shown leadership in the transition from local post offices to fewer ‘super’ post offices. It is not just about travelling farther for the services that people need.
Older people find this increasingly difficult and are often afraid of computers.
The government has not done enough to help and reassure people on this matter, and Labour has little right to try to shift the blame onto the Liberal Democrats.
