Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 8 August 2008

Wanted: bridge link

• I HAVE been a resident of King’s Cross for 10 years and am dissatisfied with Network Rail’s decision to close the north-east entrance to King’s Cross station without providing a convenient alternative route into the new entrance on the western concourse.
While we understand there may be reasons for this decision, we feel Network Rail should provide an alternative route. One has been under consideration for more then three years and was used in sales brochures touted by Argent in its proposals for the railway lands.
A modern, high-spec bike and pedestrian bridge over the tracks and into the Argent complex would cost in the neighbourhood of £5million – one per cent of the cost of the station refurbishment.
Not only would it better link the two communities of King’s Cross (Camden and Islington), it in itself could add to the regeneration, as did the Millennium Bridge, because it could become a destination location to improve the area.
