Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 5 September 2008

Fight on for freedoms

• COUNCILLOR Terry Stacy is no stranger to discrimination for being gay and out. We find it strange then that he has not responded to our invitation to talk about the closure of the highly-regarded Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Service at Ashley Road Day Centre in Upper Holloway and that he voted for its closure at the key executive meeting.
This service is important because it allows us to be who we are without fear. People like myself experience prejudice for our sexuality, our mental ill-health and our race.
Cllr Stacy may be free to exercise his sexuality but that freedom has been won at a price. Before 1973 he may well have been considered mentally ill because of it. All we ask is that he join us in the continuing battle for our freedoms and not abandon us now that he is free.
