The forces of unreason
• FOLLOWING the fun and games with the removal of a traffic gate in favour of a mightily expensive “cycle path”, the only part of Dalmeny Road, Tufnell Park, never to have traffic on it has been resurfaced (beautifully, though, at Transport for London’s expense?), all done in one short day.
But the parking guys did not obey the engineer’s request to remove the week-long parking strictures and at close of play on the Monday and again promptly at 8.30am on Tuesday our warden friends were out, having by 11am put two tickets on our neighbour’s car.
She lately returned from holiday (alone, her husband being seriously ill) and, so far, the engineer’s department has still not removed the notices in spite of a succession of phone calls. It appears the incompetents in parking do not listen to their colleagues in engineering and absolutely do not fulfil one of their major duties, serving those who pay their wages (as well, alas, as fines) – Islington residents.
A small thing but yet another example of the disconnect between Islington Council departments, and its indifference to residents. Our neighbour, hopefully, won’t have to pay when she appeals, but, in a very hard-pressed life, will have to battle against the forces of unreason first. Not reassuring.
